VNII Signal ranks among the leading Russian designers of laying and stabilization systems for armoured vehicles, rocket systems, artillery systems, combat helicopters and naval ships. Most of well-known weapon systems (such as Tunguska, Pantsir-S, Smerch, Msta-S, Uragan, etc.) are equipped with the systems designed by the Institute experts. Lately designed variable-frequency synchronous servo drives, static high-voltage converters, and antenna rotators have resulted in quantum leap of performance data of both defence and commercial equipment. More than 60 types of land track and wheeled vehicles of various service arms of Russian and foreign armed forces are equipped with autonomous navigation and survey systems of VNII Signal design. Today more than 30 models of navigation systems have been put into service and are in the serial production. The main activities of the navigation division are the production and lifetime support of the following articles: Hybrid orientation, navigation and survey systems;Geodetic support vehicles;Automatic emergency warning systems of special-purpose vehicles;Gyro devices and systems including strapdown inertial navigation systems, gyro compasses, and rate gyros for stabilization systems;Meters and measuring systems to measure altitude, travelled distance, speed and attitude angles of the vehicle;High-precision rotary encoders.Being the leading designer of artillery fire control systems, VNII Signal created Mashina automated fire control system, the first domestic AFCS for self-propelled artillery. It was followed by Faltset, Kapustnik-B and Mashina-M automated fire control systems, Reostat airborne CV for artillery reconnaissance and fire control, automated laying and fire control system for advanced Msta-S SPG. To date, the design of 1V181 and 1V198 state-of-the-art automated fire control systems, and automated laying and fire control systems (AGFCS) is completed and their serial production has begun. A modernization of 1V12 and 1V17 tube/rocket artillery systems, which are still in service, has been started.
